Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - William J. Moore of Westview Apartments died August 2, 2008 after a long illness. He was surrounded by his family and friends at the time of his death. Born August 3, 1924 in the Town of Root, New York, Bill graduated from Fultonville High School Class of 1941. He served his country as a seaman first-class in the United States Navy during World War II. Bill served aboard the original U.S.S. Saratoga aircraft carrier in the Pacific Theater and was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A longtime resident of Saratoga Springs, his career in the Saratoga area spanned many interests. Bill was a member of the Saratoga Springs Police Force; a tavern owner; a local builder and contractor; and served as an assessor for the town of Ballston. For over twenty years he was the owner of William J. Moore Realty specializing in real estate and appraisal work. Bills enduring love was the standardbred horse industry. He served as a judge for Saratoga Raceway and was involved with all aspects of harness racing beginning in the 1950s. He was a successful driver, trainer, and owner, and enjoyed talking horses with his friends and family throughout his life. Bill was also an avid golfer and member of the Saratoga Golf and Polo Club. Along with his parents, the late Allen and Gladys Moore, Bill is predeceased by his wife Maria Negro Moore who died in 1985. Survivors include his longtime companion Ann Fobian of Saratoga Springs, and his two children Chrisana Moore McGill (Charles M. Joseph), and William A. Moore (Joan Salmon), also of Saratoga Springs. Bill enjoyed his three grandchildren: Lisa Clark (Dean) of Ballston Spa, Kate Derby (Tim) of Oregon, and Mackenzie Moore of Pennsylvania. He was also the great-grandfather of Luke Clark and Lucy Derby. Relatives and friends may call from 9 to 11am Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway followed immediately by a funeral service at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Weibel Ave. Donations may be made in Bills name to The Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866
