Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - William H. Northrup passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Saratoga Hospital. He was 90. Born July 4, 1921, William was born and raised in Ithaca, NY where he graduated from Ithaca High School in 1936. He then was accepted into Cornell University where he studied Engineering and Finance. Shortly after graduating college, William met his late wife, Dorothy M. Northrup in 1943, moving to Albany, NY in 1948 to work for General Electric Co. during World War II. In 1982 William and Dorothy moved to Saratoga Springs, NY where they built their first home on Lakewood Drive. William had a great love for all history, but primarily with the aircraft industry, in which his late relatives played a great part in the development of the original airplane. William would spend countless hours researching and studying the dynamics of flight travel and technology. He also had a great love for animals and one of his greatest joys was spending time with his family and close friends. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include his granddaughter, Tracey L. LaBelle. William is also survived by very close friends, Sharon Chamberlain and Paul Wesselman. Tracey would like to extend a special thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff in the intensive care unit at Saratoga Hospital who took excellent care of William. There will be no call hours. Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). Online remembrances may be made at www.burkefuneralhome.com.
