Corinth, NY - William Porter, of Heath Road, passed away Tuesday July 6, 2010 at his residence, with his family by his side. He was 79. Born on Sept. 22, 1930 in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Miriam Babcock Porter and served as a sergeant in the National Guard in Schenectady for ten years. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Saratoga County Highway Department in Ballston Spa for over 40 years. An avid outdoorsman, he loved nature, was always caring for his animals and was also a model airplane enthusiast. Survivors include his daughter, Brenda Beratis, her husband James and their children, Christopher and Alexander, all of Saratoga Springs; one brother, Lawrence Porter and his wife Judith of Greenfield Center; one sister, Marjorie Bull and her husband Carl of Saratoga Springs, many nieces, nephews and longtime friends David Handy and Jon Foster. Relatives and friends may call from 12:30 to 2:30pm Friday July 9, 2010 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway 584-5373, followed by a funeral service at 2:30pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the family plot in Maplewood Cemetery, corner of Weible Avenue and Loudon Road.
