Ballston Spa, NY - William H. Smith, Jr. of Frederick St. died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Saratoga Hospital. He was 67. Born on December 6, 1940, in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late Margaret M. and William H. Smith, Sr. Bill graduated from Saint Peter's Academy and Siena College. He served with the U.S. Army from 1963-1965, and was a member of the Military Police. Bill worked at General Food Corporation for 29 years, then Universal Packaging for another 8 years, as manager of the printing department, retiring in 1999. After retirement Bill combined his love for Saratoga with his carpentry skills, working as a seasonal employee at Saratoga Race Track. He was a 40-year member of the volunteer Union Fire Co. #2, and also a member of the American Legion and the Italian American Club of Saratoga. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Joan C. (Rogers) Smith of Ballston Spa; his two loving daughters, Deborah Smith of Brooklyn, NY and Stacy (Smith) Grisinger and husband Gordon Grisinger III of Boston, Mass.; two grandchildren, Margaux and William Grisinger; one sister, Judith Riester (Norm) of Fort Meyers, FL; three nieces, Marybeth Krichilsky (Phillip) of Charlotte, NC, Colleen Sweeney of Charlotte, NC and Kerry Sweeney of Bonita Springs, FL. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8pm on Wednesday (Nov. 19, 2008) at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). A funeral service will be held at 10am Thursday (Nov. 20, 2008) at St. Mary's Church, Milton Ave., Ballston Spa. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Ave. Donations may be made in Bill's name to Union Fire Company #2, Route 50, Ballston Spa NY 12020, or Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
