Saratoga Springs, NY- Yakov Dadashev, 101, passed away on Monday August 21, 2023 at his home.
Born on July 11, 1922 in Derbent, Russia to the late, Bentsion and Ovgoil Dadashev. After graduating from the Higher Artillery School in Tbilisi, he fought in WWII in the Caucasus, Ukraine, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Hungary and ended the war in Austria on May 9, 1945. Before his retirement he was the Executive Director of Fire Protection Association in Russia. Yakov moved to the United States with his wife in 1994. One of his hobbies was playing chess, immediately upon coming to the United States he joined the Saratoga Springs Chess Club, competing in tournaments out of state and was able to learn how to use chess programs on the computer. He also enjoyed swimming at the YMCA and watching European soccer matches.
In addition to his parents, Yakov is predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Reveka Babayeva who passed away in 2018. Survivors include his daughters, Raisa Alkhazova, Lidiya Sherbatov and Galina Tsvaygenbaum; grandchildren, Yana Masandilova, Radmila Lyubarov, Boris Sherbatov, Polina Simanovich, Bella Graber, Yelena Baum Shragge and Reveka Alkhazova; as well as 12 great grandchildren.
A service for Yakov will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 No. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY, officiated by Rabbi David Katz of Temple Sinai.
Burial will be at Beth El Cemetery for Temple Sinai, Gansevoort, Rd. (Rt. 32) Moreau, NY.
There will be a Shiva Minyan at Temple Sinai at 5:00 PM the same evening.
